RM of Auvergne’s story
The Rural Municipality of Auvergne No. 76 incorporated as a rural municipality on January 1, 1913. Its office is in Ponteix, and it lies in the southwest part of the province.
The land around Ponteix held people long before the municipality did. Three archaeological sites with pre-contact remains are recognized as heritage properties: the Napao Site, 10 km west of Ponteix, the Niska Site, 8 km south-east of Ponteix, and the Tillet Hills site, along the Notukeu Creek valley 5 km north-east of Ponteix.
A later chapter of local history survives in the Pinto River School, a one-room schoolhouse built in 1915 about 14.5 km south of the village of Aneroid. It taught students until 1958, and since then the building has served as the Pinto River Community Centre.
